California ISO Declares Flex Alert for Southern California

FOLSOM, CA —(Marketwired – June 19, 2016) – The California Independent System Operator (ISO) is declaring a Flex Alert for Southern California, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, June 20, due to high temperatures in the region.

Consumers are urged to conserve electricity especially during the late afternoon when air conditioners typically are at peak use. Consumers can help avoid power outages by turning off all unnecessary lights, using major appliances after 9 p.m. and setting air conditioners to 78 degrees or higher.

During times of high temperatures, demand on the power grid can be strained, as air conditioner use increases.

In addition, natural gas supply used as fuel for many power generators in the Los Angeles area may be tight during this heat event because of limited operations at Aliso Canyon Natural Gas Storage Facility. The ISO has activated its summer preparedness plan for natural gas constraint concerns. Click here to view the plan.

The Cleveland Cavaliers arrived in Northern California on Friday evening on what they are calling a “short business trip.” The business at hand is a victory in a hostile environment, which would make the Cavaliers NBA champions for the first time in franchise history.

LeBron James has put forth one amazing performance after another to even the series at 3–3 after Cleveland fell behind 3–1 and the chances for the talented team from Ohio seemed bleak. James will head into Game 7 with two consecutive 41–point games.

But the Golden State Warriors are the defending champs, led by 2–time MVP Steph Curry. They posted a 73–9 regular–season record — the best in NBA history. The team is absolutely loaded with talent, including All–Star forwards Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.

Harrison Barnes and Andre Igoudala also play large roles. The two key bench players are going to have to have solid games for Golden State to stem the momentum of the Cavaliers and hoist the league's trophy as confetti rains down in Oracle Arena on Sunday evening.
